Weird and Wonderful

Writer's picture: Kathy RowanKathy Rowan

I’ve been looking into the world of digital artistry this week and I discovered two photographers/visual artists that I found inspiring.  I can’t decide which one I like best, I guess I like them both for different reasons.

I read about them in an online article called TOP TEN PHOTO MANIPULATION PHOTOGRAPHERS TO FOLLOW written by Alice Zilberberg in June 2016.  I was particularly impressed with their work! There is such a lot of great work to see in this article, something for everyone really.  These were suitable weird and wonderful and appealed to me.

ERIK JOHANSSON (Swedish Artist) https://www.erikjo.com

Erik Johansson (born 1985) is a photographer and visual artist from Sweden based in Prague, Czech Republic.  His work can be described as surreal world created by combining different photographs.  Erik works on both personal and commissioned projects with clients all around the world.  In contrast to traditional photography he doesn’t capture moments, he captures ideas with the help of his camera and imagination. The goal is to make it all look as realistic as possible even if the scene itself contains impossible elements. In the end it all comes down to problem solving, finding a way to capture the impossible.

NATALIE SHAU (Lithuanian Artist) https://www.natalieshau.carbonmade.com

Natalie Shau lives in Lithuania and combines 3D programmes and digital painting to create dark, surreal and haunting images. She combines modern and historical elements into what has been described as gothic pop surrealism.  She frequently creates work for musicians, theatre, fashion magazines and more.
