Moon Struck!

Writer's picture: Kathy RowanKathy Rowan

This week I’ve been updating my website with pictures of this term’s artworks and some details about each piece.  This has been quite an enjoyable process, as I have become better at photographing the artworks and used to the whole preparation process of naming, photographing, measuring and pricing each piece and then uploading the new information onto the website.  Here’s a picture of my updated Gallery page:

Once this was done, I also updated my stock list, so when I come to exhibit the work everything will be in order.  I was surprised by how much artwork I’ve got on my website now and was pleased to see the collection growing.   At the end of each term, I have had a ‘body of work’ ready to upload.  Not every piece is good enough, as some are simply exploratory pieces and not every piece ‘works’ so I have been learning to select the pieces that I thought were good enough.

I have also been reflecting on how to improve some of the work that I have already created, so my next exhibition will look better.  For example; I have a triptych piece which is called ‘Triple Goddess’ and refers to the pagan symbol of three phases of the moon waxing, full and waning which together creates the triple goddess symbol.  I was disappointed to see it on display at my recent exhibition at the Solaris centre because against the white walls it looked pale and lifeless.  So I have decided to create a backdrop for it of a night sky and I think this will set the work off to its best advantage.  Also, it will complement another triptych that will be part of the same exhibition which also features the Triple Goddess Symbol of three moons against the night sky.

So, here it is, my Acrylic Triple Moon Symbol against it’s new starry background… I think it’s much improved and that the background really pulls it together as a resolved piece – do you?
