Earlier this year, I went to a ‘Wonderful Writers Workshop’ in Ulverston. The event was led by the author Barry McCann. He encouraged us all to write a story that started with a magical place we knew well.
So, I wrote a short story (a guided meditation actually). It was about a magical place I had been to in real life and some of the strange experiences I remembered from that visit.
Later in the year, Barry suggested we turn our various stories into an e-book with a few illustrations. I agreed to provide a couple, one of which is an illustration for my story. Barry kindly acted as editor and put it all together for us. (I made this cover picture, but it’s not the one that illustrates my story).

Well, that was me setting up for drawing and painting actually!

Here it is all painted (I think I prefer the drawing actually.)
So, that (I thought) was the end of that. Barry did a great job editing and created the e-book for us. We all enjoyed reading each others stories and seeing our stories in print.
But then ‘digital’ came into my life!
So, I returned to my painting and with a little bit of digital wizardry was able to do something quite amazing (well amazing to me!)
So then course I wanted to show it off – here it is! My first animated picture. I do love fire, it’s my favourite element! What’s yours? Earth, Air, Fire or Water? I expect you already know how they match your zodiac signs? But, just in case you don’t…

Future possibilities
Using the pixaloop app gives opportunities to play around with existing artworks – made traditionally or digitally or even a combination of both ways. It is a fun way of adding more interest to an image, adding movement or special effects (eg lightning). You could potentially line the little videos up to create a bigger ‘film’ using this app. This is something I would be keen to do when I feel a bit more confident.
