I’ve been thinking about this pair of digital artworks I am trying to create. They are about the destruction of the rain-forest and the reaction of the Earth Goddess. They are also about corruption, greed and the patriarchy. I’m not happy with my work so far.
This is my original image ‘The Goddess Weeps.’
I don’t think it’s working well
with my second image ‘In God we Trust.’ Although the colours and the message are right, I think I could do it better.
I think this second piece gets the message across, but it feels clumsy to me. I don’t think they
work well as a pair yet.
I am learning to take action, reflect on that action, come up with improvements, plan for next time and then take action again.
I expect this concept is familiar to some of you already?
So, I’ve come up with some changes.
What do you think?
Do you think they’re stronger than my original couple?
Here’s my new versions of ‘The Goddess Weeps’
and the new version of ‘In God we Trust.’
Both created with Photoshop.
I think they link well as ‘before and after’ imagery with a strong narrative. They seem to compliment/contrast with one another referencing the Goddess and God too.
I am interested in semiotics and symbolism. I chose to symbolise the Goddess with water and tears. I referenced the God by including fire and destruction.
I like the way, with this pair of images, you can see the rainforest clearly around the edges of the superimposed image. I also like it that they are now both ‘landscape’ format. Landscape is appropriate to my theme.
I hope this is progress?
This is the beginning of a body of work, that I intend to create for my second year project ‘The Goddess’.
I hope to be exhibiting at the Solaris Centre
in Blackpool in February 2020.
Maybe I will see you there?
