This lesson came just after I had started researching about photographing my work for representation online.  I had been thinking about how to take better photographs for my own website and also for the saatchiart.com online gallery.   The saatchiart.com website includes a video with step by step instructions for taking good photos of your work which I had watched and taken notes from.  So this lesson re-iterated a lot of the same information – but with the added bonus of the camera all set up and ready to use.

I took these photos of recent ‘Planets’ I’d made for a forthcoming commercial venture during our digital lesson.  Initially, I was pleased with the results and thought it would be quick and easy to remove the little piece of plastic the plates had been balancing on to perfect the pictures.

However, I found the images fiddly to edit and decided to set things up at home with a good camera from the colleges camera ‘library’ and retake the photos.  So that’s what I did.  This time I hid the support beneath some velvet material on the stand.  I liked the black background and was very pleased with the final results.

This lesson was brilliant, something I had wanted to know how to do by myself for ages.  I felt a great sense of satisfaction from learning how to photograph my work and will definately be photographing my work in future.
