ABOUT THE ARTWORK ABOVE

This artwork was created digitally, layering the pre-raphaelite image of 'Proserpine' by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and a pomegranate onto the image of the beautiful rain-forest.

The pomegranate is a reference to the myth of the Goddess Persephone (also known as Proserpine); it symbolizes fertility and her fruitful womb.

The rich, vibrant colours were chosen to compliment Rossetti's oil painting of Proserpine.  They have connotations of autumn; another reference to the myth where the Goddess was abducted into the underworld at the end of the summer.

ABOUT THE GODDESS PERSEPHONE

Greek Goddess of transformation and long journeys, she has literally been to Hades and back and returns with the power to bless you with the power of transcendence and overcoming.

In later Greek mythology she is called Kore the goddess of spring, the hidden mystery of life underground returning after the winter.

She is the rejuvenation of the land, but she also holds a deeper mystery; that of death and rebirth.  As we tire of the old routines in our life, we can call on Persephone to overcome our problems and obstacles. Call on her when you want to overcome difficulties or banish the blues.
